Hi there,
I am here to talk to you about my
dream job of becoming a talent agent.
I would like to start off working for a talent agency at first, but
eventually I would love to own my own agency. The definition of a talent agent
is “an agent who represents performers; a representative who acts on behalf of
other persons or organizations” (The Free Dictionary by Farlex). Ah yes, the definition of my
career! I am very excited to start
working with artists and other performers of the like, and become that stepping
stone that they need to attain success in the entertainment industry.
As far as landing this dream job of
mine, I believe that I possess the skills and the qualities needed to succeed. According to Morgan Hoogvelt with
ere.net, a successful talent agent must possess these essential skills, traits,
and qualities: “good communication, ability to work hard, team player, strong
sales skills, ability to cultivate and build relationships, hunter’s mentality,
big-picture thinking, strong follow-up skills, listening, consultative in
nature, personable, and lastly, approachable” (Morgan Hoogvelt, 2012). There are a few of these skills that I
could improve upon, but I already possess many of the ones on this list. I have good communication and customer
service skills, I am a team player, I am personable, and I am very
approachable. Just naming a few of
my qualities, I believe that I am already on the right path to success as a
talent agent.
According to Lisa Howard with
Demand Media, to open up my own talent agency requires many different
elements. It requires “talent
agency licensing, employment agency licensing, a bond, a fee schedule,
associations, and guilds,” (Lisa Howard, 2012) just to name a few. It will take a lot more than this to
start up my business, but I do believe that I have the passion, the drive, the
ambition, and the knowledge to turn my talent agency into a very lucrative
business.
After
many long hours of research, completing my bachelors in entertainment business,
completing courses in my masters degree program, also in entertainment business,
and attending various concerts and performances, I really truly feel that
becoming a talent agent and one day owning my own talent agency will be the
best fit for not only my career, but for my life as a whole.
